United States of America (Press Release) January 25, 2008 --
Fort Bragg, California - January 28, 2008 - Lions, Fu Dogs and Bears (OH MY!) at the MAC
The first solo showing of "Sculptures by Frankie" will be at the Mendocino Art Center from February 2-29, 2008, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays through Sundays in Gallery 10. An artist's reception will be on the second Saturday, Feb 9, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
Frankie Kangas is a website developer by day, working on many sites, including www.sculpturesbyfrankie.com. By night, she transforms into a sculptor whose love of animals shows in her work. After moving to the Mendocino Coast 10 years ago, Ms. Kangas took her first sculpting class shortly thereafter at the College of the Redwoods. Sculpting has been a passion for her ever since.
"I do web development to feed my stomach, but sculpting feeds my soul!" says Frankie, who donates 10% of her sales to National Wildlife Federation to help save polar bears.
Her large "Fu dog" piece won Honorable Mention at the MAC's 2007 Animal Contest, and she was asked to return for her own showing. Ms. Kangas has created a ceramic chess set -- lions vs. dogs -- finished with stains, acrylics, and various waxes, exclusively for this show. Other pieces will include, "horse hair and feather raku", saggar and low and high fire glazes.
